The Genius Minds Symposium, November 2007

In November 2007, the Founders of NVLA hosted the first annual Genius Minds Symposium in Santa Barbara, California. Fifteen innovative educational “geniuses” met for a roundtable discussion. The group included entrepreneurs, professors from Harvard, veteran school heads and several representatives from NVLA. The purpose of the symposium was to brainstorm best practices for the New Village Leadership Academy in order to make our program better and better now, and to further establish our educational model for the future. Topics included: what will be taught in the year 2030 and do we need to be teaching this now, the innovations that will allow us to become a groundbreaking educational model, how to bring out the innate “genius” in children, what can we be doing in early childhood education to leverage learning, how education must give children the tools to solve the most pressing issue of the day – the survival of our planet and humankind.

It was a fascinating discussion that will filter down immediately into the classroom, program and evolving curriculum!
